Matt Carragher player profile:
Matt Carragher was a consistent right-back for Port Vale, who was also the club skipper for a spell in the 1990’s.
Carragher was signed by John Rudge on a free transfer from Wigan Athletic in 1993 and was a first-team regular until he fell out of favour under new boss Brian Horton.
However, he regained his place in 1999 and went on to be named as club captain, memorably lifting the LDV Vans Trophy at the Millennium stadium in 2001.
He was surprisingly released in 2002 and went on to play for Macclesfield Town where he finished his playing career of over 400 senior appearances.
Sadly, Matt Carragher passed away in 2016 aged just 40 years of age.
