The brother of Neville Chamberlain, hugely talented winger Mark progressed through the club’s junior ranks to made his first-team debut in 1978 aged just 16 years old.
Often playing in the same side as his striker brother, Mark Chamberlain rapidly became the star of the Port Vale side in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.
He scored eight goals during the 1981-82 campaign, his final season with the club and was chosen in the PFA Division Four team of the year in 1982 and he was also named the Daily Star’s player of the year for 1982.
He was eventually sold (alongside goalkeeper Mark Harrison) to neighbours Stoke City for £180,000 and following his introduction to the top-flight, he was subsequently capped by England.
