Jonny Brain player profile:
Jonathan Brain, known as Jonny Brain was signed by Port Vale FC on a short-term deal in July 2003. Brain was added to the squad after first-choice Mark Goodlad was injured. Brain would provide competition for understudy Dean Delaney.
Brain had been released by Newcastle that summer without making a senior appearance and had also spent time at Carlisle United again without making an appearance.
During the 2003-2004 season, after making his debut in a LDV Trophy game, Brain forced his way ahead of Delaney and made 36 appearances. With Goodlad again missing at the start of the 2004-2005 season, Brain made a further 32 appearances before Goodlad regained his place. Goodlad regained his fitness for the 2005-2006 season and Brain was restricted to a single appearance that campaign.
The goalkeeper was released by the Valiants in the summer of 2006 and he later moved to Macclesfield on a free transfer. He played over a hundred times for Macc and also had a further spell with Walsall. He later moved into non-league with spells at Nantwich Town and Stafford Rangers.
