Time at club: 1961-1965
A solid centre-half, Nicholson made a club record 208 consecutive appearances for the Valiants.
He first joined the club in 1961 for a £2,000 fee from Liverpool and quickly established himself as a first-team regular. His unbroken spell in the first-team spanned from 1962 to 1965.
He was dropped in September 1965 and his protests brought about a £5,000 move to Doncaster Rovers.
Tragically, he was killed in a road accident in 1966 aged just 29 years of age. The Port Vale directors subsequently made a donation to his widow.
