Jermaine Holwyn player profile:
Jermaine Holwyn was one of a number of Dutch footballers who were purchased by Port Vale FC manager John Rudge in the 1990s. Young central defender Holwyn was signed by Port Vale from Ajax for a fee of £5,000 in May 1995.
He was unfortunately injured in a pre-season match against Newcastle Town and was sidelined for the whole of his first season at the club – the 1995-96 season.
He made his first-team debut in dramatic fashion in January 1997 when he came on as a substitute in a 4-4 televised draw with Queens Park Rangers. Holwyn unfortunately scored an own-goal 59 minutes into his debut as the visitors stated an astonishing comeback.
He made just six more appearances for the Valiants before being released at the end of the season and returning to Holland in 1998. He then had a spell with the Dutch club HFC Haarlem.
