Jackie Mudie player profile:
Jackie Mudie was a classy, veteran inside-forward who joined Port Vale FC along with Ron Wilson from Stoke City in a £12,000 deal in 1963.
Prior to joining the Valiants, Mudie had played with Blackpool and Potteries neighbours Stoke City. He had also earned International caps with Scotland helping them qualify for the 1958 World Cup finals.
Mudie was a regular with Port Vale until August 1964 when he lost his place as his advancing years caught up with him. However, when manager Freddie Steele left the club Mudie was appointed player-manager in February 1964. He later managed alongside Stanley Matthews, who became the general manager. Mudie eventually resigned from the position in 1967 quoting “personal reasons.”
His football playing career spanned 512 games and 199 goals while he had a win ratio of 32% while in charge of the Valiants.
