George O’Callaghan player profile
George O’Callaghan was a talented but inconsistent midfielder who progressed through the Port Vale junior ranks to earn a professional contract.
He was named the club’s young player of the year and made his debut in the 1998-99 season. When Brian Horton replaced John Rudge, he was dropped back to the youth team but broke through for a second spell in the 1999-2000 season. He was top scorer at the start of the 2000-2001 season but was dropped and never appeared for the Valiants again.
He was released on a free transfer in 2002 and joined Irish side Cork City. He later had spells with Ipswich Town, Tranmere Rovers, Yeovil Town and two further spells with Cork City.
