Geoff Horsfield player profile:
Geoff Horsfield was a veteran striker who was signed by Port Vale manager Micky Adams as player assistant manager in the summer of 2009. Horsfield had had a lengthy playing career at the likes of Halifax Town, Fulham and Birmingham City.
Horsfield made a handful of appearances before retiring from playing at the end of the 2009-2010 season. He remained at the club in an assistant-managerial role under Adams.
When Adams left, Horsfield was retained as assistant under new manager Jim Gannon. However, it appeared that the relationship was strained as the pair were involved in the controversial ‘busgate’ episode. When Gannon was sacked, Horsfield was appointed joint caretaker with Mark Grew at the end of the 2010-11 season.
Horsfield retired from the game in 2012 in order to pursue business interests.
