Derek McGill player profile:
Derek McGill was a Scottish striker signed on trial by John Rudge’s Port Vale FC during an injury crisis for the club in October 1998. The Lanark born player had previously played for Falkirk, Hamilton Academical, Raith Rovers and Queens Park in the Scottish Leagues.
The 23 year-old McGill made just three substitute appearances during his time in Burslem and almost scored during a televised league game with Stockport County.
However, after a two month stay in England during which he failed to find the target, he returned to Scotland in December 1998.
He subsequently had a second spell with Scottish side Hamilton Academical whom he joined shortly after departing the English Leagues.
He ended his five year professional playing career with a record of sixty appearances and nine goals.
