Dean Holdsworth player profile:
Striker Dean Holdsworth started his career with Watford and had some first-team experience following a loan spell for Carlisle United.
In March 1988, Port Vale had allowed loan forward Michael Cole to leave and were seeking a replacement. John Rudge opted for rookie Holdsworth and the move was a success with the striker scoring twice in six games before returning to his parent club. His goals came in a 2-1 win over Walsall and a 1-1 draw with Chester City.
Holdsworth went on to have a long career in the top divisions with spells at Brentford, Wimbledon, Bolton and Coventry to name a few.
