David Beresford player profile:
David Beresford was a stocky and pacy winger who was signed on a month’s loan from Huddersfield Town by Port Vale in September 2000. It was a move which reunited him with manager Brian Horton, who had signed the player for Huddersfield back in 1997. He made four appearances for the Valiants without scoring.
The winger had begun his career at Oldham Athletic in 1994, where he appeared in the Premier League and he had had loan spells with Swansea City and Preston North End before his move to Vale Park.
Beresford returned to his parent club at the end of his month’s spell and went on to have further moves to Hull City, Plymouth Argyle, Tranmere Rovers and finally Macclesfield Town.
At the end of his playing career, Beresford had made 281 senior appearances and scored eleven goals. He had also won caps for the England U16 and U18 sides.
