Brian McGlinchey player profile:
Brian McGlinchey was a slightly built Northern Ireland U21 left-back who was signed by Port Vale manager John Rudge from Manchester City in 1997.
The defender made the first senior appearances of his career for the Valiants after failing to make a first-team appearance for Manchester City. He scored his only Port Vale goal against Oxford United before being released by John Rudge’s successor Brian Horton at the end of the 1998-1999 season. He made seventeen first team appearances during his time at Vale Park.
The left-back moved on to have spells with Gillingham, Plymouth Argyle and Torquay United where he ended his playing career after a bad injury in 2006. He ended with 193 senior appearances (and five goals) during his nine year playing spell and won promotion with both Plymouth and Torquay. He also made fourteen appearances for the Northern Ireland U21 side.
