Vale: No Barnsley approach for Pope
Chairman Norman Smurthwaite has reiterated that he has received no contact from Barnsley regarding striker Tom Pope.
Barnsley manager Danny Wilson has gone public with his desire to add Pope to his squad but Smurthwaite says that nothing will happen without his input.
I don’t know what his logic is because without my signature nothing can happen…
Smurthwaite told the Sentinel: “I don’t know what his logic is because without my signature nothing can happen.
“For a move to happen the players needs to want to go and the club need to be in a position to let him go.
“At the moment neither I nor the club have been approached by anyone.”
Pope is expected to leave the Valiants by the start of next season as the club cannot meet his wage demands and the player will be out of contract in the summer.
