Striking shortage as Pope is targeted
Vale could be forced to make a move in the transfer window as both of their remaining forwards were injured in the game against Barnsley.
Ben Williamson went off with a hamstring injury while Tom Pope was struck in the jaw. Vale already have Louis Dodds and Achille Campion on the sidelines while Alex Nimely is on trial with Bolton and Dany N’Guessan is rumoured to be leaving the club.
Despite Pope’s injury, opponents Barnsley still want to sign the forward and manager Danny Wilson commented: “It depends how bad it is I suppose. It is not good news for the boy, I know that, but it is still something we would look at.
“That’s down to the two clubs. We have identified who we would like and it is up to the two clubs to get their heads together. If they can’t do it then they can’t do it.”
“He’s a handful, you can’t argue with that. I thought our lads dealt with him very well. But that’s why we have identified him, we just think he is a different type of player to what we have got.
“Whether we get him, that is irrespective.”
“It’s is not something we can do through the press. But they know the situation and he knows the situation. We have until Monday and if it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work.”
