Club plans Page talks
Chairman Norman Smurthwaite says he will engage in contract talks with manager Rob Page after an encouraging start to his Vale Park reign.
Page has guided the side to the edge of the play-offs but is only under contract until the end of the season. Smurthwaite is keen to tie Page to the club and to also agree a transfer strategy.
Smurthwaite told BBC Radio Stoke: “Rob and I will have a conversation at the end of March, beginning of April, depending on where we see ourselves.
“I think he will become a great manager but at the moment he is somewhat hamstrung because he hasn’t got the backroom staff that maybe he would like and he definitely hasn’t got the squad that he would like to have picked if he had a clean piece of paper.
“From March I think we need to start planning. I am not going to do what happened last summer where we were taking players with five minutes to go as it were because we had to.”
