Is Page hinting at defensive line-up?
Manager Rob Page spoke to Valiant Player on the official Port Vale website this week and his comments made for interesting listening.
Vale will be missing Richard Duffy, Remie Streete and Ryan McGivern – three members of last weekend’s back four – for the game against Rochdale.
We’ve got enough strength there in-depth it’s an opportunity for them to come in, get the jersey and keep it…
Page commented: “The likes of Freddie Veseli, a Championship player we’ve got on loan, albeit a full-back, he can play central midfield, centre-half. Yatesy, he can play left-back.
“Robbo’s more than capable of coming in and holding his own, he’s proved it at this level. Dicko, it’s an opportunity for him to come back in and impress.
“So, we’ve got enough strength there in-depth it’s an opportunity for them to come in, get the jersey and keep it.”
The remarks suggest that Page will not gamble in central defence and could well turn to a partnership of Robertson and Dickinson – a duo who played together quite a lot last season. That could mean Freddie Veseli coming in at right-back and possibly Adam Yates switching to left-back.
