Video Vault: When Vale scored 11 in 3 days
For this Video Vault feature, we take a trip back to 1988 and a special weekend for Port Vale fans when the Valiants managed to string together two high-scoring wins in the space of just three days.
They started with a 6-1 demolition of Cardiff City on Saturday September the 17th, 1988 – a game that saw great goals from Robbie Earle and Ray Walker plus a simply magnificent effort from Ron Futcher (in our view one of the best goals ever seen at Vale Park).
On Monday the 19th September, the Vale then went nap against Chesterfield thanks to a Darren Beckford hat-trick and two more from Gary Ford.
It sent the watching Vale fans (including your OVF editor) home delighted and set-up the club for a successful promotion campaign as John Rudge guided the club up through the play-offs.
