Vale fans accused of racial abuse
Port Vale have threatened to ban for life any fan guilty of racist abuse during the Chesterfield game.
Police are investigating reports that a fan abused Chesterfield player Armand Gnanduillet who was led away from fans by stewards and a member of the Chesterfield coaching staff.
Vale chairman Smurthwaite said: “Anyone found guilty of any racist behaviour will be dealt with appropriately by the police and the club. The club will issue a lifetime ban to anyone found guilty.”
Port Vale Supporters Club chairman Ally Simcock apologised to the player after the game. She said: “I waited outside to speak to him and apologised on behalf of Vale supporters. He said he appreciated that. At the time, I could see it was a serious issue by the way the players reacted.”
