Rumour: Swindon striker linked?
A Swindon website claims that Port Vale are in talks with former Town striker Nile Ranger.
Editorial Note
This feature contains rumour and speculation. All of these rumours should be treated as unconfirmed gossip until any move is officially announced by the club itself. We make no apologies for publishing some rumour and gossip (after all, even the state broadcaster, the BBC, publishes a daily Football Gossip column) but we’d just like to reiterate that this feature should not be treated too seriously.
Rumours linking Ranger to Vale appeared on the OVF forum on Friday and whether the Swindon media is reacting to those rumours or have sources of their own is not clear.
The 23 year-old was released by the Wiltshire side after a controversial stay which included several court appearances and a suspension from the club for missing training sessions. However, Ranger still managed 10 goals in 28 games last season.
Vale are in the market for a forward with just Ben Williamson and Tom Pope on the books, but Micky Adams takes pride in a close-knit squad and whether Ranger will be a help or a hindrance is open to debate.
However, Adams has also attempted to incorporate players with “difficult” reputations in the past – Gary Roberts and Lee Hughes have both spells at the club albeit with differing levels of success.
