Rumour: Midfielder linked with Vale
Sky Sports have linked a number of clubs including Port Vale with a released Huddersfield Town midfielder
Editorial Note
This feature contains rumour and speculation. All of these rumours should be treated as unconfirmed gossip until any move is officially announced by the club itself. We make no apologies for publishing some rumour and gossip (after all, even the state broadcaster, the BBC, publishes a daily Football Gossip column) but we’d just like to reiterate that this feature should not be treated too seriously.
The player in question is youngster Chris Atkinson who has been released by Town. Sky reckon that Vale, along with Crewe, Rochdale and Portsmouth, are interested in the 22 year-old.
The Valiants are in the market for a midfielder with Doug Loft, Anthony Griffith and Billy Knott all leaving the squad. Former Tranmere man Steve Jennings is training with the squad but Chris Lines and Chris Birchall remain the only recognised central midfielders who have agreed contracts.
However, it must be noted that Vale were genuinely interested in every player linked to the squad, Micky Adams would have signed around 18 players this summer. So, this, like all our other rumours should really be taken with a pinch of salt until the club formally confirm or deny any approach.
