Micky Adams: Five years of starting XI’s

In a departure from our normal features, we thought it may be nice to look at the opening line-ups from all five seasons managed by Micky Adams.

The results of our research may be surprising for some.

Firstly, Vale are unbeaten with two wins and three draws.

Secondly, there is the consistency of selection. Anthony Griffith appears in four starting elevens as does Doug Loft. Meanwhile, Adam Yates, Tom Pope, John McCombe, Lee Collins and Marc Richards appear in three.

Here are the line-ups.

2009

Port Vale 1-1 Rochdale (Marc Richards, pen)

Note: this line-up has been edited to correct an earlier error.

2010

Bury 0-1 Port Vale (Lee Collins)

2011

Port Vale 2-2 Crawley (Marc Richards, Louis Dodds)

2012 *

Port Vale 3-0 Barnet (Louis Dodds, Jennison Myrie-Williams (pen), Tom Pope)

* Technically, Vale’s first game of this season was a league cup game against Burnley but we’ve picked the first league game of the season

2013

Port Vale 1-1 Brentford (Doug Loft)

And finally, here’s a possible line-up for the opening game of the forthcoming season.

2014
