An unconfirmed rumour on a popular football rumours website claims that Vale captain Doug Loft has “turned down” a move to Gillingham.
Editorial Note
This feature contains rumour and speculation. All of these rumours should be treated as unconfirmed gossip until any move is officially announced by the club itself. We make no apologies for publishing some rumour and gossip (after all, even the state broadcaster, the BBC, publishes a daily Football Gossip column) but we’d just like to reiterate that this feature should not be treated too seriously.
Loft has been strongly linked with a return to Kent, where his family are based, and was believed to be in advanced talks with the Gills.
However, according to the unconfirmed report, Vale have made an improved offer to the 27 year-old which the player has now accepted.
The loss of Loft would be a big blow to the Valiants who have already lost the services of former loanee and fellow midfielder Billy Knott.
Whether the club captain has decided to stay or go will be revealed in the next few days with the out-of-contract Vale players having until Friday 6th June to give their decision to the club.
