I’ve still got faith in Micky Adams
OVF’s Rob Fielding says he doesn’t agree with some fans who have called on manager Micky Adams to go.

There has been a fair amount of criticism of manager Micky Adams following the disappointing result against Crewe Alexandra.
Adams isn’t perfect (that’s why we’re not top of the table) but I strongly believe that the good elements he brings outweigh the bad. I also think Adams has been the victim of his own success earlier in the season. Yes, slipping out of realistic play-off contention is disappointing but seriously, would you have taken tenth place in League One at the start of the season? I definitely would.
I disagree with those fans who feel the club could manage perfectly well without him. I think it’s an over-reaction to a few bad results and a “grass is greener” viewpoint. Fans should be careful what they wish for. After all, the last time Adams was replaced we all had to suffer the short-term disaster that was James Gannon. Before he wreaked havoc on Burslem, Gannon was being hailed as a new messiah, but instead we got “busgate,” Exodus Geoghaghan et al…
It is not just coincidence that the three longest serving managers of the last thirty years – Rudge, Horton and now Adams have all delivered success…
One of the many heart-warming elements of the Rudge regime was that allied to the manager’s own skills, there was a continuity and consistency that came from having one man in charge for a long period. In that same period our neighbours Stoke City had countless short-term managerial appointments and endured one of the worst spells in their history.
I think we should stick with our current, proven and experienced man and not gamble on a change for change’s sake. It is not just coincidence that the three longest serving managers of the last thirty years – Rudge, Horton and now Adams have all delivered success. I feel that providing there is stability and continuity at the club, Adams has the attributes and experience to deliver even more.
