Alongside the loan signing of Jack Grimmer, Vale announced that young defender Joe Davis has been recalled to the first-team squad after the end of his loan spell at Luton Town.
According to Luton Town fansites, Davis has had an impressive spell at Kenilworth Road and perhaps, like Jordan Hugill, he could use a successful loan spell to propel himself into the first-team picture.
Vale’s defence endured a torrid time against Plymouth on Sunday and Vale are expected to make changes.
Earlier in the season, when Vale’s attack was undergoing a similar lean spell, Micky Adams brought Jordan Hugill into the side, dropping talisman Tom Pope. The dynamic young pairing of Hugill and Williamson inspired Vale to victory against Crawley and also gave Vale’s older players a metaphorical “kick up the backside” as they too raised their game.
It would not be unexpected if Adams used Grimmer and Davis to similar effect during Saturday’s game against promotion favourites Brentford.

The 2011-2012 campaign was the breakthrough season for centre-half Joe Davis after a series of injuries and suspensions saw Davis thrust into the first-team. The youngster did not disappoint with a number of composed performances.
Davis was duly offered and signed a two-year contract with the club in the summer of 2012. However, although he started the season 2012-13 as first choice centre-half he was largely on the sidelines during Vale’s promotion campaign.
This season he has yet to make a Vale appearance and has spent a successful loan spell at Luton Town.
