Port Vale have agreed a deal with Premier League side Sunderland for midfielder Billy Knott to join on loan until the end of the season.
However, the midfielder will not be eligible to play in the FA Cup fourth round game against Brighton.
Knott has been linked to Vale for some weeks and the speculation increased when Knott’s loan spell with Wycombe was terminated early.
The signing of Knott will also go some way towards compensating for the sad loss of Forent Cuvelier, who joined Vale on loan but managed just 30 minutes of action before being ruled out for five months.
