Does this explain bizarre Johnson rumour?
OVF may have an explanation for bizarre rumour linking the Port Vale keeper with a move to Scottish giants Celtic.
It’s fair to say that many people connected to Port Vale were bemused when Sky Sports News started reporting that Celtic were interested in a £2m move for keeper Sam Johnson.
Sky Sports News reported that Johnson was earmarked as a potential replacement should first-choice Fraser Forster leave Celtic Park. The rumour prompted Vale manager Micky Adams to comment: “I think this is just a flyer. That’s his agent doing well for him.”
Johnson is highly regarded at Vale Park and could well be one for the future, but he’s very much in the fledgling stage of his career having made only eight senior appearances. Hardly the experience needed to become the goalkeeper at a top SPL club is it?
Now, comments sent to OVF appear to suggest that Sky may well have got their wires crossed as Celtic are indeed linked with a keeper called “Johnson” only it’s not Port Vale’s.
According to information we have received, the player Celtic are actually rumoured to want to buy is 24 year-old USA International Sean Johnson – who with over 100 senior appearances is much more of a like-for-like replacement for Forster than the Vale rookie.
