Can Vale learn from Plymouth gesture?
OVF editor Rob Fielding is touched by a notice from FA Cup opponents Plymouth Argyle and wonders if Port Vale can follow their lead.
Most right-thinking Football League supporters have a mutual respect of each other’s loyalty and dedication regardless of what colours we happen to wear…
Rob Fielding writes…
Jason, a travelling Vale fan sent me the photograph that adorns the top of this feature. It’s to Jason and his fellow 131 Valiant supporters’ immense credit that they made the near 500 mile midweek round-trip to Home Park and it’s therefore nice to see that Plymouth have made the effort to recognise the fact.
Yes, it’s only a piece of paper attached to a wall but it’s a nice touch from a club whose own fans deserve much praise for travelling vast distances to support their side at away fixtures.
Most right-thinking Football League supporters have a mutual respect of each other’s loyalty and dedication regardless of what colours we happen to wear and it’s only a tiny minority who think it’s right to insult and abuse other loyal football fans.
So, perhaps Vale could adopt this gesture and show some respect and thanks to visitors to Vale Park in the future?
Our next cup visitors are Brighton who will be undertaking a 350 mile round trip. For the price of a couple of sheets of A4, it may be nice and in the spirit of football to at least thank them for making the journey!
