Composed Duffy praised by Adams
Recalled defender Richard Duffy has been hailed as “different class” by manager Micky Adams after the former Welsh International made his first appearance of the season in the centre-half position.
He is telling me he is a centre-half, he got his chance and I thought he was different class really…
Duffy, who has made the majority of his Vale appearances at right-back, was called into the side as a late replacement for Liam Chilvers and boosted his reputation with a calm and organised display in the centre of the defence.
Adams told the press: “I thought Richard Duffy was excellent. That’s really given me a little bit of food for thought because he has been desperate to play centre-half.
“He is telling me he is a centre-half, he got his chance and I thought he was different class really. He was cool and composed and winning all his challenges.”
Duffy’s confident display will be a boost to the Valiants who have looked short of numbers at the back. But with the emergence of Jordan Hugill boosting the forward line, Duffy’s comeback now means that Vale also have options at the back.
