About Port Vale 3-2 Brentford video, 1989
Substitute Andy Jones proved to be the matchwinner as Port Vale claimed a dramatic win in the 1988-89 promotion season.
Forward Jones had returned to the club on loan from top-flight side Charlton Athletic and he scored the winning goal in the dying moments after earlier strikes from striker Ron Futcher and winger Gary Ford.
The game was played on the 13th March 1989 at Vale Park and took place in front of a crowd of 5,577.
John Rudge’s Valiants side went on to finish in third place in the third division and they secured promotion via a play-off final win over Bristol Rovers at the end of the season.
