Blades job: is Page in contention?
Sheffield United have announced the sacking of David Weir, a move that could potentially affect the Valiants.
When Weir was appointed back in June, Vale coach Rob Page was reportedly on a shortlist of three to become the new manager.
Page missed out on that occasion, but the Vale coach clearly has ambitions to become a manager and his prospects will only be strengthened by a spell as caretaker manager at Vale Park while Micky Adams was recovering from a hip operation.
Page’s period in charge was described as “admirable” by Adams but Vale fans will doubtless be hoping that the highly rated Welshman remains at Vale Park for a while longer.
The good news for Vale fans is that, this time around Page is not amongst the frontrunners, according to Skybet, who list Nigel Clough, Russell Slade and Tony Pulis amongst the frontrunners.
