Birchall receives International call-up
Port Vale’s most capped player, Chris Birchall could be in for a busy summer of International football after he was included in the squad for Trinidad and Tobago’s friendlies against Romania and Estonia.
Birchall, who has played twice for T&T already during his second spell at the Valiants is expected to play against Romania (3rd June) and Estonia (7th June). The friendlies are seen as warm-up games for T&T’s participation in the summer’s Concacaf Gold Cup and should Birchall impress, he could find himself playing in the tournament which begins on the 3rd July.
Birchall, who has been offered a new contract by the club, could therefore miss the Vale’s friendly games against Norton Utd, Newcastle Town, Derby County and Kidderminster Harriers due to his International commitments, but the silver lining for the popular winger will be the chance to add further caps and stretch his lead as the club’s most-capped International.
Birchall the trailblazer
28 year-old Birchall is the club’s most capped player. The midfielder has now been picked on 24 occasions by Trinidad and Tobago.
