Trialists play for Vale reserves
The Port Vale FC reserve squad to take on Walsall on Wednesday contained no less than six trialists.
Included in the Vale starting eleven were Jack Deaman, a 19 year-old centre-half previously with Wrexham and Birmingham City, 17 year-old Aston Villa midfielder Malcolm Melvin , Scottish centre-back Graham Hutchinson and 19 year-old Manchester City midfielder Bradley Robinson. On the bench were former West Brom player Ricardo Swaby and Team Bath’s Matty Warner.
Of the trialists, Melvin and Robinson are the most high profile. Robinson joined City from Manchester United in 2006 and is part of Man City’s elite development squad. Melvin is a former boxer who has been capped by Scotland at U17 level.
