A personal appeal from OVF editor Rob Fielding

It is time for us, as fans to back the club and offer them as much encouragement as we can…

As I mentioned in my blog earlier this week, this is the first time since 1994 that the club have a realistic chance of promotion. I hope that, like me, you are hoping that this is the season that Vale return to League One.

When the spat between Micky Adams and a section of the away support came to our attention this week, our lead editorial expressed a desire to see some mutual respect between the club and its fans.

Ultimately, we as fans cannot influence events on the pitch. But in recent days, the Chairman Paul Wildes, the CEO Norman Smurthwaite, the manager Micky Adams, the captain Doug Loft have ALL expressed their admiration for Vale fans AND called on fans to give their support to the team.

I think the club have worked hard in the light of Tuesday night to build some bridges and to show that they do respect the supporters. So, I feel that following the club’s appeal for our support it is time for us, as fans to respond – to back the club and offer them as much encouragement as we can.

This is not simply “happy clapping” as some may label it. As paying customers, fans have every right to constructively criticise, but I simply don’t feel this is the right time to do it. The time to assess the manager and players will be at the end of the season, not now. Now it is surely the time to put personal differences aside, to back every player in a Vale shirt (not just our favourites) and to give the entire team a boost.

The club have asked for our support – now is surely the time that we give it. It’s simple:

Bin the boos… And back the boys…
