Veteran midfielder Ritchie Wellens (pictured in action for Oldham against Vale in 2005) has denied he is set to move to Port Vale on loan during the January transfer window.

The 32 year-old Leicester City midfielder was linked with a potential move to Vale Park earlier this month.

However, it is understood that the former Blackpool and Oldham playmaker is unwilling to drop down into League Two.

The Valiants have also been linked with 36 year-old Notts County midfielder Gavin Mahon who has been unable to force his way into the Magpies first-team recently.

In December, Mahon indicated he may seek a move if he is unable to get first-team football with County.
