Chilvers’ Vale future remains uncertain
Defender Liam Chilvers’ participation in the match against Gillingham is the subject of some speculation as Port Vale have yet to confirm whether the player has agreed an extension to his short-term contract.
Chilvers, who rejoined the club for a second spell in November 2012, signed an initial short-term contract that expired on January 6th.
The experienced centre-half has been a regular in the first-team following an injury to John McCombe and despite the signing of Darren Purse, Chilvers would be one of the favourites to start against the Gills.
After the departure of Gareth Owen by mutual consent and McCombe’s injury, Vale only have three under-contract centre-halves available in Purse, Clayton McDonald and youngster Joe Davis.
Following the 4-0 win over Plymouth last weekend, Micky Adams expressed a desire to extend Chilvers’ stay at the club, but so far there has been no official confirmation that the proposed talks have been productive.
