Adams: A ‘couple’ of players may move on
Manager Micky Adams has suggested that some players outside of the Port Vale squad may move on in the January transfer window.
I don’t expect players not on the fringes of the team to be happy so there could be a couple on their way out…
Adams told the Sentinel that it was unlikely that Vale would make any early additions to their squad in the transfer window but he did tell the newspaper that “I don’t expect players not on the fringes of the team to be happy so there could be a couple on their way out.”
This may mean that Adams expects to move some players on before assessing if he needs to bring in any new additions to his squad.
The most obvious candidates to move on would be Gareth Owen, who has featured for just 55 minutes of the season and Chris Shuker, who has not started a game since November, may also look to move clubs. However, while Owen’s contract expires in the summer, Shuker is contracted for a further season and it is uncertain whether Vale would let him move on unless a mutual agreement on terminating his contract is agreed.
Sean McAllister, who hasn’t made a first-team appearance since the beginning of December and on a short-term contract, could be another who may be considering leaving the Valiants for first-team football elsewhere.
