The Valiants earnt a valuable away point against Southend after securing a goalless draw at Roots Hall.

Micky Adams brought in Louis Dodds to the midfield to replace the suspended Sam Morsy while new signing Sean McAllister was on the bench.

Vale had the ball in the net on sixteen minutes but Vincent’s effort was ruled out for handball. To add insult to injury, Vincent was booked and will now face a suspension.

Then a mistake by Clayton McDonald let in Hurst but Chris Neal made a good save.

It was a open game with both sides having chances but neither side were able to convert their chances in main thanks to good goalkeeping by both keepers.

In the closing minutes, Vale could have secured three points but Vincent and Pope’s efforts were saved as it ended all-square.
