Forest Green 2-3 Port Vale
Forest Green 2-3 Port Vale: supersub Ben Williamson’s fourth goal of the season proved to be the winner as Vale reached the FA Cup second round at the expense of a battling Forest Green Rovers side.
As expected, Clayton McDonald and Joe Davis paired up in central defence, while Louis Dodds replaced Ben Williamson upfront. Tom Pope was named as skipper with Doug Loft returning to the Vale bench.
Port Vale got off to the perfect start as Ashley Vincent netted his sixth of the season after six minutes.
And on twelve minutes, Vale made it 2-0 as defender Clayton McDonald scored his first Port Vale goal from a neat move.
Rovers got back into the game on 35 minutes when James Norwood pulled one back for the home side.
And the home side brought the score back to parity just after the interval as a free-kick found Oshodi who levelled the scores.
The home side piled on the pressure as they sought the winner and Doug Loft was brought on to replace Rob Taylor with 15 minutes remaining.
But the home side’s hopes were dashed when Port Vale supersub Ben Williamson scored his fourth of the season with five minutes remaining to make it 3-2 to the Vale.
It proved to be enough to take Micky Adams’ side through to the next round.
