Port Vale 3-0 Oxford Utd
Port Vale 3-0 Oxford: Goals from Tom Pope, Ashley Vincent and Sam Morsy earned Vale a deserved home win over Oxford Utd in front of the Sky TV cameras.
Port Vale, with preferred bidder Paul Wildes watching on, took the lead during a competitive first-half thanks to Tom Pope, who had earlier hit the bar.
Top scorer Pope made no mistake on the half-hour mark after he capitalised on keeper Clarke’s fumble to put the Valiants 1-0 ahead.
In-form Ashley Vincent again capitalised on Clarke’s nervousness as he netted from an acute angle on 51 minutes to make it 2-0 to the Vale. And young midfielder Sam Morsy made the three points safe with a curled winner on the hour mark.
The only sour note for Port Vale was an injury for Ryan Burge which saw the midfielder carried off. But overall, it was another excellent performance by Micky Adams’ attacking Port Vale side who now look strong contenders to be League Two promotion contenders. From a summer of discontent it is turning into a good season for the Valiants.
