Port Vale 1-1 Torquay United
Port Vale 1-1 Torquay United: the Valiants came from a goal behind to secure a draw thanks to an own-goal from Torquay’s Brian Saah.
Micky Adams named an unchanged starting eleven for the game with Adam Yates returning to the Vale bench.
Vale had the majority of possession and chances but they were unable to beat keeper Poke. Ashley Vincent was the most unfortunate after the Torquay keeper pulled off a good save. And it was the visitors who took a half-time lead when they scored just before the interval when Morris netted from close range.
Vale had a chance early in the second-half when Shuker fed Vincent, but Poke made a good save. And there were appeals for a penalty when Dodds looked to be brought down in the box. Then Vincent’s cross rattled the crossbar as Vale continued to press.
And Vale finally levelled things up on 65 minutes when Brian Saah headed an own-goal from Vincent’s cross.
Minutes later, Saah rattled the woodwork as he nearly scored a second own-goal – this time from Duffy’s cross. And in the dying moments, sub Rob Taylor burst into the box but Pope was unable to find the back of the net from the cross.
Vale continued to press and the ball was cleared off the line in stoppage as Vale tried in vain to find the elusive winning goal.
