Port Vale 3-0 Barnet
Port Vale 3-0 Barnet: Tom Pope scored his first of the season as Vale started the new season with a resounding home victory over Barnet. Louis Dodds and Jennison Myrie-Williams (pen) scored the other goals.
Port Vale manager Micky Adams made two changes to his starting line-up with defenders Clayton McDonald and Richard Duffy replacing Joe Davis and Adam Yates at the back.
It was a great start by the Valiants when Louis Dodds put Port Vale ahead on just eight minutes through a volley. Just twelve minutes later, winger Jennison Myrie-Williams made it two when Tom Pope was brought down in the box and Myrie-Williams scored from the spot. Pope and Dodds also had first-half chances to stretch Vale’s lead.
In the second-half, substitute Ben Williamson set up Tom Pope to side-foot into the net to make it 3-0. It was due reward for the striker after an impressive display.
It was a very encouraging start to the new season after all the drama of the summer months and the precarious financial situation which the Valiants were in.
