Port Vale have announced that the club is “in negotiations” with Championship side Barnsley over a loan deal for defender Lee Collins.
Collins is out of contract in the summer and the loan move to Barnsley will probably see the defender move to Oakwell in the summer.
In the short-term, Collins’ possible exit will mean Vale will continue to be stretched for numbers in defence. Gareth Owen is out for the season while Clayton McDonald’s trial is in April and the defender will probably be missing for the duration of that. The only other central defenders are rookies Kingsley James and Joe Davis.
