1920’s Port Vale pictures – vintage images revealed
1920’s Port Vale pictures: thanks to Port Vale fan Leigh Briscoe, OVF has been handed these amazing images of Port Vale players during the late 1920s including striker Billy Briscoe.
These images were discovered by Leigh’s grandmother and several of them feature Port Vale player Billy Briscoe, who is related to Leigh.
The untitled team images are believed to date from the late 1920’s.

The title on this image says Chelsea 3-3 Port Vale at Stamford Bridge, London. Prince (L) and Briscoe (kicking) Port Vale’s goalkeeper and left-back respectively stop a Chelsea raid.

A note on Port Vale FC player Billy Briscoe:
Billy Briscoe was a former Stoke City and Leeds United forward who played for Port Vale FC over three spells – in 1918, 1919-1923 and 1925. He was top scorer in the 1924-1925 season. He also played in the 1929-30 Port Vale promotion side.

4 th photo down; back row, second from right. Can anyone confirm that this is Tom Cooper? I am related to him and this looks very like him and seems to be about the time he was at Port Vale. He went on to play for Derby and Liverpool and England ( as captain for a short while).
