Port Vale 2-1 Gillingham
Marc Richards scored a last-minute penalty as Vale came from behind to beat Gillingham 2-1.
Micky Adams kept faith with Stuart Tomlinson and brought back Rob Taylor. Taylor slotted in at left-back with Doug Loft playing at right-back.
Vale had much the better of the opening period with Loft going close and Morsy failing to take advantage of a goalkeeping error.
But despite the Valiants dominating, it was the visitors who took the lead in the dying moments of the first-half. A cross was missed by the Vale defence and Whelpdale headed home.
Vale made a triple substitution on the hour mark with Marshall and Shuker brought on for their debuts and Owen replacing McDonald at the back.
Shuker and Marshall introduced some drive to Vale’s play and Sean Rigg equalised with ten minutes left after good work from Richards and Loft.
Then in the final minute of normal time, Vale were awarded a penalty and Richards made no mistake in scoring his eleventh of the season.
