Northampton Town 1-2 Port Vale
John McCombe and Sean Rigg scored as Port Vale recorded an away victory against Northampton Town on Saturday.
Micky Adams made two changes with Chris Shuker and Paul Marshall starting in place of Morsy and Williamson.
The match kicked off with fans still stunned by news of the club’s transfer embargo, which meant Chris Birchall was unable to be named in the squad, but the sad news did not effect the players who got off to a great start.
Vale were quick out of the blocks and John McCombe gave them a lead after just four minutes. It was McCombe’s second of the season. The in-form Louis Dodds almost made it two soon afterwards.
The home side came more into it in the second-half and Tomlinson produced a fine save to deny Williams.
But shortly afterwards, Vale made it safe as Sean Rigg latched on to Marshall’s throughball and rounded the keeper to make it 2-0. It was Rigg’s ninth goal of the season.
Northampton continue to push forward and Akinfenwa notched his customary goal against the Valiants as he capitalised on McDonald’s mistake.
The home side tried to find the equaliser but they found Vale’s defence in resiliant mood as Micky Adams’ side continue to close on a possible play-offs place.
