Rotherham United 0-1 Port Vale
Captain Marc Richards scored his tenth goal of the season as Port Vale ended a run of four defeats with a welcome away victory over Rotherham.
Micky Adams was again forced into changes with Gareth Owen and Tom Pope both failing fitness tests. Stuart Tomlinson, Rob Taylor and Clayton McDonald came into the starting line-up.
In a largely uneventful first-half, Vale had half-chances for Loft and Richards but the strong wind made the opening 45 minutes difficult for both sides.
Vale took the lead on the hour mark as Loft was fouled and Richards stepped up to score from the penalty spot. It was the striker’s second goal in successive games. And Vale came close to doubling their lead when Williamson broke but the young forward was unable to beat keeper Taylor.
The home side pressed and Adams’ side lived dangerously in the closing stages as the ball was twice cleared off the line, but they hung on to take a welcome three points back to Burslem.
