Police end "theft" investigation

Staffordshire Police has confirmed it is no longer looking into the alleged theft of a corporate document from Port Vale Football Club.

A Staffordshire Sentinel journalist was interviewed by officers after details of Vale Chairman Peter Miller’s remuneration package were published in the newspaper as part of a wide-ranging investigation into the actions of the club’s board of directors.

A police spokesman told The Sentinel: “Staffordshire Police and Port Vale have reached a satisfactory conclusion regarding the investigation.”

The editor of The Sentinel Mike Sassi said: “We never reveal our sources – but it was plain daft to suggest that any of our staff had broken the law.”
