Player contract talks put on hold
Port Vale could potentially lose up to 14 first-team players in the summer after manager Micky Adams confirmed that contract talks have been put on hold. The Sentinel newspaper also claims that key players, such as top scorer Marc Richards, have been asked to take pay cuts if they extend their stay at the club.
Adams told the newspaper: “We’re not in a position to make offers to any of our existing players at the moment… so they should never think there’s nothing to play for if they’re going to get deals elsewhere come the end of the season.
“We were in discussions with players, but I suppose those talks have now fallen by the wayside.
“The talks were conducted by Peter Miller, so we always run the risk of losing the players now because we’ve left it so late.”
OVF Stats: Players out of contract at the end of the season: Collins, Tomlinson, James, Pope, Roe, McDonald, Martin, McCombe, Griffith, Richards, Dodds, Haldane and Rigg – in addition to Ben Williamson finishing his season’s long loan spell.
Players contracted beyond the summer: Burge, Owen, Loft, Yates, Morsy.
