Gillingham 1-1 Port Vale
Gillingham 1-1 Port Vale: Marc Richards scored his fourth of the season, but a controversial retaken penalty handed Gillingham a draw as the League Two encounter at the Priestfield ended all-square.
Micky Adams made one change to his starting line-up with Adam Yates coming in for the ill Rob Kozluk. John McCombe returned to the Vale bench.
The home side had much the better of the opening exchanges but Vale came closest to taking the lead when Tom Pope’s header rattled the woodwork on the half-hour mark.
Then Marc Richards gave Vale the lead on the 33rd minute when he latched on to Tom Pope’s knockdown. It was Richards’ fourth goal of the season and the 62nd goal of his Vale career.
Luke Rooney went close before the break, but Vale held on to lead at the break.
Then on 63 minutes, Vale conceded a penalty when Rob Taylor fouled Nouble in the box. Tomlinson saved Kedwell’s spot-kick but the ref controversially asked for the penalty to be retaken and Kedwell made no mistake to make it 1-1.
Both sides had chances to win it, but it ended all-square with the points shared and Vale remaining just outside of the play-off zone.
