Crewe 1-1 Port Vale
Crewe 1-1 Port Vale: Striker Tom Pope scored against his former club as Micky Adams’ side shared the points with their South Cheshire rivals.
Port Vale manager Micky Adams handed full debuts to new Valiants signings Rob Kozluk and Liam Chilvers while Stuart Tomlinson, Doug Loft, Sam Morsy and Clayton McDonald also came back into the starting eleven.
Byron Moore went close for the home side before Vale striker Ben Williamson had two efforts on goal which troubled home goalkeeper Steve Phillips but Crewe were able to clear the danger.
It was Tom Pope’s turn next as he had two headers on target but was unable to beat Phillips.
Home side Crewe took the lead on 74 minutes when winger Byron Moore beat Rob Taylor to dribble into the area and fire home past keeper Stuart Tomlinson.
However, Port Vale drew level just two minutes later when debutant Rob Kozluk’s long throw found its way to Clayton McDonald and his flick-on found striker Tom Pope who slotted home.
There was a frantic finish but neither side could find a winner in a pulsating game.
